Directions for use: 

Xylitol should be introduced into the diet gradually, starting with small amounts. Use as a substitute for white sugar. Xylitol should be introduced to the diet gradually (starting with 1 teaspoon per day). A maximum intake of up to 10 teaspoons per day is recommended. If consumed in excessive amounts, it may cause a laxative effect.

Xylitol is a polyhydroxy alcohol, which is part of FODMAP, or highly fermentable foods. This means that people with irritable bowel syndrome and those with hypersensitivity to xylitol cannot use it.
