Hygiene in Skincare - VESA Tips

Posted by VESA Beauty on

You focus on finding skincare products tailored to your skin’s needs. You want it to be free from imperfections, radiant and smooth. You keep testing new products, yet you still have concerns about your skin’s appearance. Its condition does not improve. You notice no changes. Imperfections do not disappear, even though the products were supposed to help. So what now? Look not at what you use, but HOW you use it! Read why proper hygiene in skincare is so important! Sometimes even small changes in your skincare routine can bring visible results when used consistently.

Explore our tips on skincare hygiene and try incorporating them into your routine.

1. Wash your hair first, then your face

If you wash your hair first and then your face, you can be sure that any remaining hair product residues are thoroughly rinsed away from your hairline. If you do it the other way round, insufficient cleansing may lead to breakouts, as residues from hair products can remain on the skin. This will not happen after a single instance, but if done regularly, it may contribute to imperfections. That is why it is best to adopt the correct order in your routine.

2. Hand hygiene

All guides say to start skincare with cleansing the face, but in our view it is equally important to cleanse your hands before any skincare steps. It may seem obvious, but do you wash your hands every time before touching your face? If you sometimes forget or were not aware of its importance, remember to always touch your face with clean hands. This prevents transferring dirt and bacteria from your hands onto your skin. During the day, try to keep your hands away from your face — avoid resting your chin in your hands, scratching your nose or adjusting your hair. Many of us do this unconsciously, so changing this habit requires awareness at first, but it becomes natural over time.

3. A separate towel for your face

Your face towel should be different from the one used for your body — absolutely essential. Ideally, it should be changed daily. You can prepare a set for the whole week and wash them all on laundry day. Simple, right? This helps prevent the spread of bacteria. If you struggle with problematic skin, you may even consider disposable paper towels — less eco-friendly perhaps, but beneficial for your skin. Never rub your skin when drying it; instead, gently pat it dry to avoid damaging the skin barrier.

4. Hygiene of makeup tools

Do you wear makeup daily? If you use brushes and sponges but do not clean them after every use, that is a mistake. They accumulate product residue, sebum and bacteria. Ideally, they should be cleaned after each use and left to dry in a clean, dry place. It is also worth storing them in a closed container to prevent dust and dirt from settling on them.

5. Hygiene of reusable pads and cleansing cloths

Reusable cotton pads and cleansing cloths are excellent eco-friendly accessories, but they must be kept clean. After each use, rinse them immediately by hand and wash them in the washing machine from time to time. Always leave them to dry completely in a dry place.

6. Cosmetic spatula

Have you noticed that some creams come with a spatula? It is used to scoop the product out of the jar.

This reduces the risk of bacteria and contamination entering the product, extending its shelf life. In fact, you can use a spatula for any jar-based cosmetic. However, it should always be cleaned after use and stored in a closed container to avoid dust accumulation. If the product comes in a tube or has a pipette, do not touch it directly to your skin, as this may contaminate the contents. Always keep a small distance from the skin.

7. Pillowcase

Frequent changing of pillowcases is also very important, as they collect skincare residue, bacteria and sebum every day. Natural materials such as cotton or silk are best for the skin. Silk in particular is extremely gentle and reduces friction when you move during sleep. An additional benefit is that your hair will also appreciate it.

These may seem like small changes, but they can have a significant impact on your skin. Waking up a little earlier is enough, as implementing these habits takes very little time. Consistency and discipline can noticeably improve your skin condition. This holistic approach to skincare, based on awareness that daily habits affect the skin, will help you enjoy a healthy, well-cared-for complexion.
